Shownotes "Stroke is a devastating disease. About 20% of patients die within the first year and another 20% are bound to nursing home for the rest of their life. Stroke occurs frequently and is very costly. In the United States (US) 780,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke each year; approximately 600,000 of these are first attacks and 180,000 are recurrent attacks. In a large percentage, the cause of stroke remains undetermined, in which case the stroke is called 'cryptogenic'. Both persistent and paroxysmal AF are potent predictors of first and recurrent stroke and can be diagnosed with continuous monitoring."
