Ambulatory monitoring is routinely employed for the evaluation of atrial fibrillation recurrence following therapy. Studies have consistently demonstrated that symptoms are unreliable markers of AF recurrence and the more comprehensive the monitoring protocol
the greater the likelihood of identifying recurrent atrial fibrillation. The lessons learned from these studies should be utilized to standardize monitoring guidelines for the evaluation of new therapies of AF.
